Tyres are the only part of a car that touches the road. Braking distance and how the car behaves in a corner both depend on their condition, and on a wet surface the gap between nearly new and worn-out tread is wider than people expect. We look at the tyres and the wheels and tell you where they stand.
When to deal with it
- The season is turning and you need to change to winter or summer tyres.
- A tyre is losing pressure, or you have driven over something sharp.
- You feel vibration through the steering wheel or the seat at speed.
- Tread is close to the legal minimum, or worn unevenly.

- We look at the condition of the tyres and wheels and measure the tread depth.
- We tell you what we see, and which of it actually needs dealing with.
